SUMMARY:CABA-VACD Webinar: Future Business Models – Shaping Tomorrow
DESCRIPTION:CABA-VACD Webinar: Future Business Models – Shaping Tomorrow\n\nThe sustainability business model has never been more important than it is today\, the pandemic has sped up a wide range of issues and new trends\, including board leadership\, ESG and the adoption of digital technologies as well as business model transformation. \nThe era of stand-alone sustainability strategies\, with subsequent integration of sustainability into company strategy\, needs to end and the creation of resilient business strategies that take sustainability as the foundation needs to begin. \nESG and digital transformation have taken centerstage in the overall business strategy and ways of working of brick and mortar businesses. While some early adopters have built their businesses with digital strategies from the get-go\, some were agile enough to quickly make the necessary digital pivots. \nThe China-ASEAN Business Alliance (CABA) and ONERHT collaborated with the Vietnam Association of Corporate Directors (VACD) to organise the webinar on “Future Business Models: Shaping Tomorrow” for Vietnam on 7 July 2022. The event is also part of VACD’s series of activities to celebrate its 15th anniversary. \nThe webinar covered how brick and mortar companies have transformed their business models digitally to maintain business resiliency\, as well as how the transformation of business models (both new and existing companies) is inevitable in order to create long term economic value. \nOur panellists also advised business owners to embrace technology\, network with experts in the industry\, and use technology to mine data and respond to changes and crises\, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Companies which took the first step towards digital transformation and sustainability well before the pandemic were in a stronger position to stay the course and find technological solutions to overcome challenges and pressures. Such organisations constantly innovate and reflect\, asking “What’s Next?” to maintain their competitive edge. \nWe would like to thank our speakers and all participants for taking time to share their insights and exchange of ideas in the robust and engaging session! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nRead more on TheLEADER here \n \n

SUMMARY:Strategic Investments in the Philippines from Singapore
DESCRIPTION:With its growing and young tech-savvy and English-speaking market\, the Philippines\, dubbed as the social media capital of the world\, is now projected to be ASEAN’s start-up dark horse. \nRecently\, legislation on tax and investments have also made the Philippine economy friendlier to foreign direct investors. Following the heels of the creation of the Fiscal Incentives Review Board regulating the grant of new tax and fiscal incentives\, nationality restrictions for foreign direct investments were relaxed with the passage of much-awaited amendments to the Public Service Act\, Foreign Direct Investments Act\, and Retail Trade Liberalization Act. Meanwhile\, right before a political regime change\, former President Duterte signed the country’s Strategic Investment Priorities Plan for the next two years. \nDuring the panel discussions\, our speakers tackled various topics centred on foreign direct investments in the Philippines\, sharing regulatory\, commercial and legal perspectives across: \n– Strategic Investment Priorities\n– Ease of Doing Business\n– Start-up Ecosystem\n– Cross-border Investment Structures \n \n\nKeynote 1: Philippine Strategic Investment Priorities\nPlan 2022\n \n\nPanel 1: Ease of Doing Business in the Philippines\nfrom Singapore (Regulators’ Perspective)\n \n\nKeynote 2: Philippine Start-Up Ecosystem\n(Regulators’ Perspective)\n \n\nPanel 2: Commercial perspectives of FDIs into the\nPhilippines and Philippine start-up ecosystem\n \n\nPanel 3: Investment Structures & Legal Considerations\nRHTLaw Asia\, together with Villaraza & Angangco of the ASEAN Plus Group and RHT Consulting\, advises on strategic investments and market entry in the Philippines and the internationalisation journey of Philippine businesses through its Philippine desk. SUMMARY:RHT CABA ASEAN Summit 2022
DESCRIPTION:ASEAN member states have widely divergent relations with the US and China. The growing East-West rivalry and the Russia-Ukraine war are creating new tensions within ASEAN. Singapore and many ASEAN member states maintain neutrality in the US-China rivalry despite the occasional incoherent signals from within ASEAN. Coupled with the post-pandemic landscape and the new uncertainties created by European war\, building resilience while recovering from the pandemic has become a top priority for many member states. 2016 saw the inception of the ASEAN Economic Community. RCEP was signed in Nov 2020 and upon ratification\, it will become world’s largest trade agreement by economic output and would increase trade and integration among the Asian economies. As China consolidates\, RCEP may push the world’s factories from China to the rest of Asia; chiefly into the ASEAN member states. \nWill the supply chain dislocation help ASEAN achieve economic integration? Where are the bright spots within ASEAN? Is technology driving the kind of growth we used to see in the last decade? Will ESG and Sustainability remain relevant in ASEAN? New security concerns have arisen recently. How has geopolitics affected the way we do business? The pandemic’s cumulative effects on labour\, capital flows and productivity are challenging. Together with geopolitics introducing inflation and new supply chain bottlenecks; economic life is set to get worse. What can we do about it? \nKey Discussion Topics:\n– ASEAN Macroeconomic Growth Outlooks & Risks\n– Updates & Challenges in Settling Disputes Across China & ASEAN\n– The Rise of ASEAN’s Digital Economy\n– New Opportunities in Energy Security & Investments \nAgenda\n(GMT +8 / SGT)\n\n\n\n10:00AM\nOpening Address\nProfessor Walter Woon\, SC\nChairman\, RHTLaw AsiaIntroduction to RCAS 2022\nAzman Jaafar\nManaging Partner\, RHTLaw Asia\nChairman\, ASEAN Plus Group\n\n\n10:10AM\nGuest-of-Honour Address\nMs Rahayu Mahzam\, Senior Parliamentary Secretary\, Ministry of Health & Ministry of Law\n\n\n\n10:20AM\nKeynote Presentation\nDr Leo Suryadinata\, Visiting Senior Fellow\, ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute (Singapore)\n\n\n\n10:40AM\nPanel 1\nASEAN Macro-Economic Growth Outlooks and Risks\n\n\n\n\nUnfolding Developments in Geopolitics: Navigating the impact on ASEAN economic stakeholders of the continuing sagas of the US-China decoupling and Russia-Ukraine conflict\n\n11:40AMRebel Labs Unveiling\nVictor Tay\, Founder & CEO\, Rebel Labs\n12:00PMPanel 2\nUpdates and Challenges in Settling Disputes Across China & ASEAN \n\nExploring traditional and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms\, including international commercial arbitration\, recourse against arbitral awards and enforcement of foreign judgments\n\n12:30PMLunch & Networking Opportunity\n2:00PMPanel 3\nThe Rise of ASEAN’s Digital Economy \n\nA robust discussion on ASEAN’s digital economy\, covering strategic tech investments\, cross-border data transfers and managing cybersecurity risks across digital trade regimes\n\n3:00PMPanel 4\nNew Opportunities in Energy Security & Investments in Emerging Sectors in the Green Economy \n\nWith the impact of geopolitics and COVID-19 in ASEAN\, what are the new investments in emerging sectors in the green economy and opportunities to enhance energy security amidst a framework of regional cooperation?\n\n4:00PMClosing Address\nTeng Theng Dar\nFounding Chairman\, Asia Entrepreneurs Exchange\nMember\, CABA Advisory Council \n\nOpening Address by Prof Walter Woon\, SC\n\nIntroduction to RCAS 2022 by Azman Jaafar\n\nGuest-of-Honour Address by Ms Rahayu Mahzam\n\nKeynote Presentation by Dr Leo Suryadinata\n\nPanel 1: ASEAN Macroeconomic Growth Outlooks\n& Risks\n\nPanel 2: Updates & Challenges in Settling\nDisputes Across China & ASEAN\n\nRebel Labs Unveiling\n\nRebel Labs Unveiling\n\nPanel 3: The Rise of ASEAN’s Digital Economy\n\nPanel 4: New Opportunities in Energy Security\n& Investments in Emerging Sectors in the\nGreen Economy\n\nClosing Address by Teng Theng Dar

SUMMARY:Unlocking Jakarta’s Potential: Challenges and Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:Indonesia\, which is heavily dependent on natural resource exploitation for economic growth\, has significant environmental and social issues – ranked in the top third of countries for climate risk\, with high exposure to flooding\, extreme heat\, and sea-level rise. Indonesia’s transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient future will require huge investments. The private sector will have to play a bigger role in strengthening Environmental\, Social and Governance (ESG) practices to facilitate this transition. \nUnder a recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX)\, International Finance Corporation (IFC)\, a member of the World Bank Group\, and with the support from Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO)\, listed companies and prospective listers will be encouraged to strengthen Environmental\, Social and Governance (ESG) practices. The move is expected to boost the companies’ efforts to better weigh ESG issues\, including climate-related risks\, and help them deliver on sustainability goals. This agreement will make listed companies on the IDX more attractive to the growing number of investors looking for sustainable assets. \nJoin this exclusive webinar “Unlocking Jakarta’s Potential: Challenges and Opportunities” to learn the intricacies of doing business in Jakarta and of the regulation update of Jakarta’s Spatial Plan towards strengthening Environmental\, Social and Governance (ESG) practices.
